In the hush of dawn, with the world softly lit, I watched in silence, where the meadow and forest knit. A black bear ambled in, dew on the ground, And to my surprise, with two cubs she was bound. They played in the meadow, full of life and zest, While mama bear decided it was time for a rest. Then from the mist, like shadows in a dance, A small herd of bison into the clearing pranced. Curiosity sparked, no longer could they refrain, A cub and a calf, touching noses, then off again. As if to declare with a run back to their kin, "MOM! I touched a bison!" echoed with a grin. Mama bear woke, unimpressed by the feat, Yawning wide, her nap incomplete. Each creature then, in their own silent accord, Drifted back to the forest, not a word nor a chord. I sat there in awe, as the morning's first light Grew into day, the meadow bright. Birds changed their tune, the day began anew, Reflecting on the spectacle that into my memory flew. What a scene, nature's unscripted play, Critters and creatures, in their own ballet. A moment of peace, a transient delight, Witnessed at dawn, before the rush of daylight. How grand it is, to see the wild's gentle show, A bear, her cubs, and bison, putting on a quiet tableau. In laughter and wonder, my heart took flight, Grateful for the gift of this serene morning sight.
