What Still Works

Some things still work.
Patience and stillness matter.

Not as waiting for the past to return,

but as the kind of wisdom that learns new rhythms
without resentment.
The land still responds to those who slow down enough
to notice when it’s saying, not yet.

Timing still matters.
Sometimes the larger forces at work in our own bodies and minds
speak to us through the land.
The question is whether we hear it,
especially when we’re sure we already know better.

Sometimes the work is knowing when to shape and direct,
and when to leave a place alone. Effort still matters.

But it’s different effort now,
and different lessons.
The land still rewards those who adapt
before they demand.

Care shows up in restraint
as much as presence.
In how often we return.

In how much pressure we leave behind.
In the choice to let something rest
instead of insisting it respond.

Loving a place has never been free.
It asks for attention.

It asks for humility.

It asks for the patience to stay in relationship,
to grow alongside change
even when the terms shift.
What still works
is learning to move with the land
instead of trying to move it back
to what it was.
